Walter Robinson, artnet NYC 1 Which kinds of formats do you work with? You could think of technical formats, cultural formats, art formats, document formats, program formats etc. What can we bring to the art world? A sense of URGENCY in supplying the latest art news. We provide info -- we play with the big boys -- from the New York Times to Artforum.... 2. Why did you choose this /these format/s? We have our feet grounded firmly in economic reality. 3. Could you think of formats as tools? The internet is an unbelievably powerful tool for global communication, as everyone knows. 4.To what extent do formats regulate your working methods? My favorite thing is to sit at home watching television while I cruise the web, checking in with newspapers everywhere, from the Seattle Times to the London Telegraph to papers in Australia, Paris, Mexico City and across the U.S. There I find locally reported art news stories and compile them into short & sweet items for Artnet News. Thus a small operation like us can compete with Reuters or the Wall Street Journal -- when it comes to art. 5. Imagine you could change or delete one format of any kind. Which one would you choose and why? I like dance -- but it's about showing off young bodies. I like theater -- but it's about being grandiose. I think I could live without musicals best of all. But if I were to delete anything, it would definitely be ART CRITICISM!
