INFOTAINMENT

Formal moments, such as the way of staging or the degree of urgency and directness, change informations into news, facts or infotainments. At any rate, it deals with forms of entertainment. The lack of factual objectiveness is thus precondition for a more relaxed and community related way of dealing with informations and technology, with the self-legitimation as expert in one's special field and with the invention of an own publicity for one's own contents.

"there's a bandwidth playing on the radio"

Since the dictatorship of format was imposed upon the radio, this medium appears to be an old, pitiful technology. Consumers, however, are already zapping through dozens of TV-channels long ago. convex tv. replies to the routine of disclosures under public law of a few "to the many" and to its loosening as a collective form that constructs itself continuously: precisely because radio as a format is completely neglected and its counterpart under public law is grieving about the golden days of "top down" transmitted high culture, a third gap is opening on air. Each month since 1997, convex tv. transmits a one-hour magazine into this "on air" gap. Digital media, pop-cultural phenomena, media politics, film, and literature are jointly confronted with critique. convex tv. integrates persistently the changing moments of pop, technology and politics without the illusion of a simultaneousness that may reach "many".

Radio is for convex.tv merely a medium among many that submerges below the surface of mediablending into new constellations, connections and context. convex.tv vanishes as group product and event behind the screen of attention to simultaneously demand the concentration that radio has forgotten long ago. Also the radiosalons implemented as concrete, spatial mailing list or chat group in parallel to the programs in a one-hour window of the academic radio between StarFM and Voice of America, contrast with traditional radio. Radio vanishes in social space as a volatile medium without timer. Great.
